Scholarships

One of goals of the DAAD is to give young people in Germany and abroad an opportunity to gain international academic and research experience. Scholarships promoted by the DAAD Information Center Tel Aviv are available for outstanding Israeli students and researchers, as well as for non-Israelis who've resided in Israel for over a year. Israelis who hold a German citizenship are of equal status as other Israelis in terms of scholarship consideration.

1. For Israeli Students

1.1 Intensive Language Courses

Aimed at BA or MA students, who have German language proficiency equivalent to level A2-B1. Bachelor students are eligible to apply for the scholarship from their second year of studies. Faculty members and PhD students are also eligible to apply.

1.2 University Summer Courses

Aimed at BA or MA students, who have German language proficiency equivalent to level B1 and higher.

**Please note: there are more restrictions involved. Read the application requirements for both language scholarships carefully.**

Applicants, who cannot present a language certificate (onDaF, TestDaF, GI-Nachweis, DSD, DSH, telc Deutsch, ÖSD) are requested to participate in a language test before the end of the application period.

1.3 Study Visits for Groups of Foreign Students to Germany

University teachers/faculty can apply for a visit to Germany for 7-12 days with a group of minimum 10 and maximum 15 students who are in the second or higher semester of their degree programme. The programme is open to all subject fields.


1.4 Practical Traineeships for Foreign Students of Natural and Technical Sciences, Agriculture and Forestry (IAESTE)

This scholarship enables to Students of Natural and Technical Sciences, Agriculture and Forestry who are enrolled in member countries of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) an Internships in commercial enterprises, research and higher education institutes in Germany.



2. For Israeli Graduates

*** PLEASE NOTE: applicants who wish to study in English must present proof of language abilities; not older than 2 years by 1 September (TOEFL with at least 550 or IELTS with at least 6.5) ***

2.1 Study Scholarships for Graduates of All Disciplines

This study scholarship aims to provide foreign applicants from all fields of study (except Architecture, Music, Art and Performing arts) with an opportunity to complete a Master degree or year of study in a Master Programm at a German state (public) or state-recognized higher education institution.


2.2 Study Scholarship for Foreign Graduates in the Field of Architecture

For a Masters/Diplom degree programme completed at a state or state-recognised university in Germany or:

1st/2nd year of study at a state or state-recognised German university as part of a postgraduate or Master's degree programme completed in the home country.


2.3 Study Scholarship for Foreign Graduates in the Field of Music

These study scholarships aim to provide foreign applicants from the field Music with an opportunity to complete a course of extension studies, without gaining a formal degree or qualification, or to complete a postgraduate or Master’s degree course to gain a degree in Germany (Master’s/Diplom), at a German state (public) or state-recognized higher education institution.


2.4 Study Scholarship for Foreign Graduates in the Field of Performing Arts

These study scholarships aim to provide foreign applicants from the fields of Performing Arts (Drama, Direction, Dance, Choreography etc.) with an opportunity to complete a course of extension studies, without gaining a formal degree or qualification, or to complete a postgraduate or Master’s degree course to gain a degree in Germany (Master’s/Diplom), at a German state (public) or state-recognised higher education institution.


2.5 Study Scholarship for Foreign Graduates in the Field Fine Art, Film, Design/Visual Communication and Film

These study scholarships aim to provide foreign applicants from the fields of Fine Art, Design/Visual Communication and Film with an opportunity to complete a course of extension studies, without gaining a formal degree or qualification, or to complete a postgraduate or Master’s degree course to gain a degree in Germany (Master’s/Diplom), at a German state (public) or state-recognized higher education institution.



3. For PhD candidates and Post Docs

3.1 PhD Scholarships (Research Grants – Doctoral Programmes in Germany)

Scholars with master’s degree in any subjects can apply for full PhD scholarship at any university and research institutes in Germany.


3.2 Sandwich Model Scholarships for PhD Registered Scholars (Research Grants – Bi-nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees)

Scholars registered for their PhD at an Israeli university / research institute carry out research for their PhD thesis in Germany under the joint supervision of an Israeli as well as a German professor. PhD degree to be awarded by Israeli University / Institution.


3.3 Research Grants – One-Year Grants

The primary aim of this programme is to promote research projects within the context of doctoral programmes. Excellently-qualified doctoral candidates and young academics who have completed a Master's degree, or those who have already completed a PhD (postdocs) are eligible to apply for a research project at a state or state-recognized institution of higher education in Germany or a non-university research institute, which is being carried out in coordination with an academic adviser in Germany.


3.4 Research Grants – Short-Term Grants

The requirements and aims of this grant are identical with “One-Year Grant” except of the duration of funding. Research project of one till six month can be founded.


3.5 Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowships

This programme is jointly implemented by the Leibniz Association and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Highly-qualified, international postdoctoral researchers, who have recently completed their doctoral studies, can apply to conduct research at the Leibniz Institute of their choice in Germany.


3.6 DLR-DAAD Research Fellowships

This programme is jointly implemented by the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Highly-qualified international doctoral and postdoctoral students as well as senior scientists can apply to conduct research at the institutes of the DLR in Germany.

DLR is Germany´s national research center for aeronautics and space. Its extensive research and development work in Aeronautics, Space, Transportation and Energy is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures. As Germany´s space agency, DLR has been given responsibility for the forward planning and the implementation of the German space program by the German federal government as well as for the international representation of German interests. Approximately 7,400 people are employed in DLR´s 33 institutes and facilities at 16 locations in Germany.


3.7 Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience (P.R.I.M.E.)

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers a new funding programme - co-financed by the Marie Curie Programme of the European Commission - for outstanding postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines and nationalities: „Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience“(P.R.I.M.E.).

3.8 Intensive Language Courses

Doctoral candidates in any subject area who have German language proficiency equivalent to level A2-B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages can apply for a scholarship to participate in an intensive language course in Germany.  Faculty members are also eligible to apply.



4. For Israeli Academicians & Senior Scientists

4.1 Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists

University academics and scientists on active duty can apply for a stay of up to 3 months to carry out a research project at a state (public) or state recognized higher education institution or non-university research institute in Germany.



5. For Israeli Alumni

5.1 Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders

Former holders of DAAD research grants or study scholarships, who were funded for a period of over six months or former East German scholarship holders who studied for at least one year in Germany are eligible to apply for a grant to carry out a research or working project in Germany.
